The key feature of the "state of the art" Innovene
Fluid Bed Process is the catalyst system that was specifically designed for the
polymerization process.
Through its licensing agreement with BP, PT. TITAN has access to BP's broad range of technologies, from the Ziegler Natta Catalyst type to the latest BP Innovene direct catalyst injection technology. These technology ensure efficient plant operation and high quality products. Output of consistent product quality is assured.
Both technologies that are used at PT TITAN ensure efficient plant operation
and high quality products. Output of consistent product and performance is
assured.
The catalyst or prepolymerized catalyst is introduced at low
concentration into a reactor where polymerization takes place. The growing
particles of dry polymer are kept in fluidized condition by the upward flow of
reaction gases, mainly ethylene monomer and butane comonomer. This gas leaves
the top of reactor and is cooled before recycling into the reactor base. Its
composition is continually adjusted under an automatic control to ensure
production within narrow specifications.
Polyethylene powder is withdrawn from the fluidized bed through a valve,
degassed and then treated to stop residual catalyst activity. Pneumatic
conveying takes powder to the palletizing extruder where selected additives are
mixed in accordance to the application. The final product emerges in pellet form
to be packaged for shipment.
BP is a leading R&D institution polymer technology. Since 1985, its novel gas phase process for polyethylene manufacturing has been successfully licensed to many countries including Japan and United States. A total production volume of well over 1,5 million tonnes a year is produced using this technology. In 1990, the process received the top award in the Clean technology Category of the European Better Environment Award for Industry competition.
