Our commitment to our community

As a responsible company, we look for positive ways to impact our stakeholders and the communities in which we operate. In recent years, we have provided over 100 local farmers in the Merak area an opportunity to farm the unused land that we own. This has helped them to generate a simple income to provide for their families.

As a result of Titan Chemicals’ pledge of RM 1 million (2.5 billion rupiah) to relief and rehabilitation efforts in the wake of the 2004 tsunami, a commitment of RM 370,000 was made to build and equip a PUSKESMAS(community health centre) in Meuraxa, Banda Aceh.

The completion of PUSKESMAS Meuraxa in May 2006 was a beacon of hope for the residents of the surrounding area. It has been the catalyst for re-building in the area and now former residents are seen building their houses all around the new health centre. The Meuraxa area, which was once densely packed with thousands of homes, was completely flattened by the tsunami.

Datuk Dr Jemilah Mahmood, President of MERCY Malaysia, the NGO which led the construction of the centre, said, “PUSKESMAS Meuraxa is a symbol of confidence and hope for the people of Meuraxa. When we first started construction, there was barely any construction here. By setting up this facility here in the middle of where it all happened, it has given them the confidence to return to their homes,” she added.

Present at the launch event on 27 May 2006 were senior officials from BRR (Agency for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Aceh), health department, Mercy Malaysia and employees of Titan Chemicals.

Situated just minutes away from Kota Banda Aceh, PUSKESMAS Meuraxa will serve the medical and healthcare needs of 12,000 people in the area of Desa Blang Oi, Kecematan Meuraxa in Banda Aceh. It is also one of the numerous projects implemented by humanitarian organization, MERCY Malaysia, in Banda Aceh. Apart from functioning as a general polyclinic, PUSKESMAS Meuraxa also houses an emergency room, pharmacy as well as a dental clinic. PUSKESMAS Meuraxa is currently manned by a team of doctors lead by Dr Yulidar.
